In the United States, erectile dysfunction affects nearly 40% of men over the age of 40, according to the National Institute of Health. About half of those men, with a greater proportion of those affected, suffer from symptoms.
“In the United States, the prevalence of ED is rising all over the world,” said Dr. Emily Carter, a U. S. specialist in sexual medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
According to Dr. Carter, this is “one of the largest erectile dysfunction (ED) studies in history in the United States.”
For the first time, men with ED also have access to an erectile dysfunction treatment at a private, publicly-funded clinical research center.
The American Medical Association (AMA) recently announced plans to invite men to the center for a study on men’s sexual health.
Dr. Carter said the study will be held at the University of Rochester’s Center for Sexual Medicine.
“The research is important because we need to show that these patients have improved sexual satisfaction and quality of life,” she said.
The study will be done by a team of U. experts led by Dr. Andrew McCullough.
McCullough said the research is designed to measure whether men with erectile dysfunction are able to successfully take an ED medication like Viagra. The research has been a long-standing theme of the medical community since its inception. According to the AAMA, more than 3 million prescriptions for erectile dysfunction drugs have been filled in the U. alone, making up more than 30% of ED prescriptions.
The team will compare the results of Viagra with other drugs for ED, such as Cialis, Levitra, and Cialis XR.
“This is the first study to show that ED drugs can be safely used by men with ED,” McCullough said.
Carter said the findings are important because “many men with ED don’t have the opportunity to access treatment.”
The study is the first to show that men with ED can take Viagra. But the results don’t necessarily mean that men with ED will have to take Viagra.
Viagra, the brand name for sildenafil, is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction. It is available by prescription only, and patients are advised to consult their doctor before taking Viagra.
In the U. S., the number of prescriptions of Viagra has been rising steadily over the past three decades. According to the American Medical Association, since 1998, there have been more than 2.2 million prescriptions for Viagra in the United States.
The research team will conduct a series of surveys to determine which drugs are most effective for men with erectile dysfunction, with or without sexual arousal symptoms. The results of the surveys will be analyzed to determine the most effective and safest ED drugs, based on the results of the surveys.
“The findings of this study will help doctors and patients make decisions about ED treatment, and it will help us better understand what ED drugs are,” McCullough said.
“Our results will help improve the quality of life for men with ED and will enable men to have effective and safe ED treatments,” she added.
“This study is important because we need to show that these patients have improved sexual satisfaction and quality of life,” McCullough said.
Emily Carter, U. general practitioner, said the results of the survey will help the physicians and patients in the Mayo Clinic’s Center for Sexual Medicine.
“This is the first study to show that ED drugs can be safely used by men with ED,” said McCullough.
“We want to see that we can treat erectile dysfunction with medications like Viagra. But it is important to remember that the FDA has approved only a few medications for ED and that we have to make sure we do it in a safe and effective way,” she added.
McCullough is a board-certified urologist at the Mayo Clinic. Her office is located at 619 South Main St. in Rochester, Minnesota.

| - |Men in the UK will be able to buy Viagra over the counter after consulting with a pharmacist and without a prescription for the first time today.
ViagraConnect manufacturer, Pfizer, estimates more than a fifth of men aged over 18 in Britain suffer from erectile dysfunction, but almost half of those over 40 have not sought medical help.
The erectile dysfunction drug will be available in 14,000 stores across Britain and via pharmacy websites.
The tablets will be available exclusively from Boots until 10 April.
Those aged 18 and over will be able to buy the tablets following a conversation with a pharmacist or after filling out an online form. Men can ask to speak to a pharmacist in a private consultation room if preferred.
The pharmacists will determine whether treatment is appropriate for the patient and give advice on erectile dysfunction, usage of the medicine and potential side effects. They will advise men to consult with their doctor no less than six months after buying Viagra so that any potential underlying conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease can be investigated.
A Boots spokesperson said that the man affected by erectile dysfunction should buy the drug themselves wherever practically possible.
Men with severe heart problems, those at high risk of heart problems, liver failure, kidney failure, strokes or those taking certain other medicines, will still need to be prescribed the drug under the supervision of a doctor.
A four-pack of the tablets will cost £19.99 and an eight-pack £34.99.
Men who buy it will be advised that they can take a 50 mg tablet an hour before having sex, but should not use more than one pill a day.
Viagra is is already available as an NHS prescription free of charge for those eligible not to pay for their prescriptions.
The pharmacist will decide how many packs will be supplied in a transaction.
